Henley Upsets its Alumni

The announcement earlier this month that Henley Management College is to merge with Reading University appears to have upset some of the former's alumni. A story in the Sunday Telegraph yesterday, picked-up that City power-broker Terry Smith is trying to block the merger.

Henley's Principal, Chris Bones, is sure that larger institutions with access to more resources - and research are the future. But the alumni, I suspect, dislike the concept of being associated with Reading University which is not one of the UK's more prestigious business schools. It is ironic that it should be a City-boy who is causing the stir - as one of Reading's best assets is the International Capital Markets Association centre (ICMA); a leading global research and learning centre for the complex world of financial wizardry. I would have thought that it alone would be worth pairing with.
